Mahmoud, what is a specific story from your experience as a refugee that you find meaningful and would like to share?
Mahmoud: Wa alaykum as-salam (Peace be upon you as well). I’m glad to be here and share my story. One meaningful experience I had as a refugee was when I first arrived in Canada. I was welcomed by a community of people who showed me kindness and support, which really helped me feel at home despite all the challenges. It was a moment that gave me hope and strength to keep going.
Fariah: Thank you very much Mahmood, Jazakumullahu Khayran (May God reward you well). How did your faith support you during your experience as a refugee?
Mahmoud: Faith played a crucial role in my journey. It provided me with strength and patience to face challenges. Trusting in Allah’s plan and knowing that everything happens for a reason gave me peace and hope, even in difficult times.
Fariah: Thank you very much Mahmoud, Jazakumullahu Khayran (May God reward you well). How is it like living in Canada as a refugee?
Mahmoud: Living in Canada as a refugee has been a mix of challenges and blessings. Adjusting to a new culture and environment can be tough, but the support from the community and opportunities here have made it easier. Overall, it’s been a journey of growth and gratitude.
